Hi Rod,
I just checked the guitar with my 10" Champ Clone; the pickups
are great!!!Very good string to string clearance, very resonant. The Alnico II bridge and the Alnico V neck fit perfectly with the guitar (Heritage 535).I can`t wait to play it on my regular equipment.Compared to my NIK HUBER  ORCA-more a PRS singlecut type guitar than a Les Paul type- which has
WCR Crossroads with Alnico II magnets it shines.
regards,
Wolfgang

Hey Rod-

Just wanted to let you know I installed the Raw Nickel set in the ES 333 I recently picked up. I've been messing around with them all day and all I can say is...WOW!! Love them!
The tone is incredible...very airy with a nice ping to single notes, great chord definition, and a beautiful midrange when pushed. Oh, and that middle position...has that open almost single coil thing, love it! They are also incredibly dynamic, VERY touch sensitive.

Really a joy to play. I recorded a quick little blues to listen back to... lead starts with the middle position, then neck, then the bridge.
The rhythm gtr track is the ES 333 before the pickup swap with the stock 490 and 498T pickups. Doesn't sound bad, just missing that sparkle that the Skatterbrane's have.

I am really looking forward to playing this guitar on Phoebe's upcoming Live Record now, it has really come to life with these pickups!
Thanks again, and we'll talk soon.

Sincerely-
Roger Butterley

PS- Please feel free to use any of my comments or the track for promotional purposes, you have my ringing endorsement!

O.K. Rod, I'm completely sold! These Skatterbrane pickups are exactly what I hoped they would be. FINALLY PAF tone! Great touch response, dynamics and the all important overtones. With an over-driven tube amp they actually get clearer as the guitar's volume is turned down. No more muddy loss of tone as the volume decreases. Usable tone control. Part of that is the 50's style wiring and paper in oil caps, but the vast majority is the construction of your pickups.  The pickups were able to deliver big time.  Wednesday I'll be at band rehearsal and can turn up the Bassman. I can't wait to try them through my modded Marshall Plexi reissue head when it's back from the tech, and I need to run them through a Fender Blackface. To say I'm thrilled is an understatement. My Les Paul Historic finally sounds as good as it looks. I'll definitely recommend Skatterbranes to anyone looking for authentic PAF tone. You've got the touch. You've discovered the proper wind using materials that enhance the overall build while retaining authenticity in tone and design. Well Done!
Thanks again,
Eric

Rod,

just got your pups today..they are in R9.. Now, the BKP I had in it before were wound to a spec from a real PAF and many people have said how good they sound, they have lot of middle and quite a mellow type tone.

So I put yours in and it makes my old pups sound like mud!!! Seriously Its like I have had cotton wool pulled out of my ears!!! the TONE of the SKATTERBRANE just smokes the Bare Knuckles.. Your pups just sound so crisp, clear, rich, perfectly balanced and perfect.. you got the skills when it comes to tone

I can't wait to do youtube vid and I'm gonna try and get you lots of business becasue thease really are the best pups I have tried and I have been through lots of makes new and old.

Cheers Rod

Mark

hey rod, sorry to be so long in answering.I don't check this site as much.anyway the A5s rock!they are smooth!but the 59 still sounds nothing like the 58.58 is warmer, more vintage sounding.59 is more 70'hard rock sounding.I am recommending the Skatterbranes to all my friends. The guitar tech at Guitar center Loved them. The neck pup on the 58 is righteous! The bridge on 59 is smokin.I am playing the 59 more ,trying to make a sound I like.Again, thanks for a great Product!!!Billy

Hi Rod,
I tried the Pus this morning at home and took them to the studio this afternoon.Very happy !
Put them in an R9 and was recording through a Suhr Badger 18W into a 2x12.

I have tried all sorts of Paf clones (borrowed and bought) this last year or so, to get close to the sound
of my vintage 57 GT using a historic.Your Skatterbranes sound pretty dam close.

I will put up some feedback on Ebay when I get home.

Take care

Nick

Hi, Rod.

I got it today and installation was completed. Thank you for your kindness.

SKATTERBRANE have same feel, Antiquity and TomHolmes and other clone hand wired style pickups.
It is Clear sound, Quick nuance, Good separation, etc....Of course, They exist in SKATTERBRANE too.

But I feel one more tone in SKATTERBRANE. It is so very woody tone.
It is a sound that have only in SKATTERBRANE. That is amazing sound !

Thank you for your great job. You are awesome guy.
I hope if you more become famous, Please keep the same quality.

Thank you !

Hiro

Hi Rod,

I  just wanted to let you know I recieved my pick ups in good condtion.I have allready installed
them in my R8 Les Paul .They are all I hoped they would be.I love the way they sing when you bend
into a note.I also like the improved clairity on the lower notes, and they sound nice for jazzy stuff on the neck pick up ,by rolling the tone back a little.

                                                                                                  Thanks,Ward

Rod, pickups installed today. Two pickups has very good ballance and amazing
tone. Sound is quite CLEAR in all of positions. Also nice woman tone is a
notable point. Thanks for quite nice Pickups !

JUN

Hi Rod, just had them installed and played for 30 minutes. First, they're worth every penny.
It's a huge upgrade to my 490/498 set. The neck pup is sweet and airy, sounds awesome
both clean and distorted. And I can actually get a nice woman tone for the first time by rolling
off the tone. Bridge pickups were never my favorite because they sounded too sterile and hot but
I can't get enough of your bridge pup. It sounds awesome both clean & crunchy distorted.
I think the middle position is my favorite though because you can get all these great tones by
rolling the knobs).

Michael

Thanks, I installed the Skatterbranes in my 1989 "prehistoric" Les Paul Goldtop the day they arrived.
They replaced the SD Seth Lovers, which had a clean, tight crunch but not much "voice." It was clear
the moment I began testing the SBs that the sound was by far more vocal, expressive, dynamic, and
complex. Where the Lovers seemed to emphasize the upper mids, the SBs were better balanced

I am very pleased with the Skatterbrane pickups I purchased. I installed them in my Japan made
80's Burny "lawsuit era" Les Paul, right when I pulled them out of the mailbox. The original pickups
were oxidized from age and I wanted to replace them with something that would have original PAF
quality tone. I must say that these pickups not only look beautiful, but the tone that comes from
them is nothing short of amazing. The youtube videos are responsible for me purchasing the
Skatterbrane PAF's, but one cannot fully appreciate the quality tone that these produce until they
are nestled in their final resting place within the body of an axe. Would I buy them again?
Absolutely!! One could spend years and thousands of dollars experimenting with different pickups
and still may never find a a set of pickups that does what Skatterbrane pickups do so effortlessly.
It's all about the tone!! Thank you so much!!

Hi Rod,

I’m just back from the german Music Fair in Frankfurt.

I’ve tested the pickups everyday and I have to say they are a keeper J. The deep barking growl is one of a
kind. I like them better every day.

But please be patient. I’m going to play a gig in 10 days. I will use them and write a detailed review for you
when I’m back. I have to know how they work in a live situation. I’m looking forard to.

So far I can say they are the best PAF clones beside my WCR Betset. Great product! They do exactly what
I`ve expected.
You are the world champion when it comes to a clear bass response.
I can’t get them
mushy. No way. They are always clear and exposed. That’s fantastic.
My PAFs sound kind of flat and
compressed in comparison.

Thank you so much again. And please give me a little time. After my gig I will send a longer review.

Rod,

the pickups arrived this morning. Very quick! J

I’ve spend the afternoon to give them a first try. I think they do exactly what I’ve expected. Great product.

They do sound much clearer and a bit stronger than my PAFs and WCRs. The string separation is
outstanding. But what I like most is the woody character they give to the tone. The front pickup is doing a
fanatstic Jazz- or Blues-Tone. Quite dark, but always clear and full of detail. Which means the bass
response is strong but very clear. My PAF front pickup is a bit flabby and flat in comparison. What the PAFs
do different is the doublenote thing. You have sometimes the feeling that two guitars play the same notes.
Your skatterbranes are slightly stiffer, but in a good way. I’m really happy cause they give a perfect contrast
to my other pickups.

I think I will need some days to understand what they’re all about. I will keep them in my Les Paul and play
around with them. So far it was a lot of fun. I’ve learn
ed
something about a totally new PAF homage which is
the woodiest thing on earth (believe me I tri
ed them all... :-) )

Thank you so much again. I’m pleased I’ve made this deal. I will continue to send my ongoing impressions.

Best Regards

Hi, this is Sang who purchased your pickups. now I install it in my Klein guitar, it sounds amazing!
I used a lot of high-end pickups. but it's batter than anyone. it's the best of the best PAF type pickups
i've ever used.
thanks, and I will get other of your pickups soon. have a great day! --Sang

HI Rod,

I just got it back from my guitar guy about 4 days ago and the sound is magnificent.
I play it through a peavey classic 30 and they're a great match. I put them in my epiphone
les paul standard for now until I fixed my old gibson up but the sounds amazing so i'm going
to leave them in there permanently. The sound is very vintage with a lot of character. Every
time a change a setting on my amp the pickups start telling new stories. Pretty good mate!

Thanks a lot for these buddy.

Rod, I finally got them in. Some observations as compared to the 57 classics.
I thought I was going to hear a vastly different sound and when I first started playing
I did not perceive a large difference. However after about 5-10 minutes I was totally
immersed in playing. Through a JTM 45 clone the sound opened up from the mids on
up but became less hard/harsh sounding at the same time. The low end is nicely balanced
with the rest of the spectrum; enough grunt without being woofy. The mids, however, is
where these really shine. Really nice violin type tone without that closed in boxy high gain
sound. I've heard people speak of that woody knock in the midrange and these also have
that quality. They really made me feel good while I was playing. My girlfriend said I looked l
ike a little kid at Christmas. Very expressive. Getting closer to that sound I hear in my head.
(not the voices, lol)You will being hearing from me again.
Thanks.
Chris.

Hey Rod, I installed the Skatterbranes today in my '62 reissue SG and I
think they are excellent!!! Nice work! Could you do me a favor and cease
all production so no one else can have them? :-D
Thanks again..............Jesse

Hi,
You're pickups are THE BOMB!  They are little hotter than what I'm used to,  but what solid tone on my Mojave Plexi 45.
Thanks, Tiim

Rod,

I have installed the first set (I received the second set to-day so thanks) in my '97
customshop historic '59 and your pick-ups sound the way gibson
says that the removed classic 57'ns should sound.
your pick-ups really are close to the real PAF's  what a sound.
I could nearley not stop playing  thank you very much . all the tapes on your website
don't overdo the sounds, they really are awesome .

Regards,

Ab

Rod; I recently got my second set of SKATTERBRANES and they've caused me some problems.
They're problems because I don't want to play out with any of my other guitars that DON'T
have 'BRANES in them!  They sound great, and they've got a reliable, predictable tone.
Predictable meaning that no matter how you change your controls, you know that the tone
is going to be great there, in any toggle position or any volume position......  There are three
main guitars I always go gigging with and two of them are SKATTERBRANE'd!!!!!"
TDS

Hey Rod,
The pickups are absolutely amazing!  Not to bad mouth other winders, but i’ve tried
numerous types of pickups from WCR and Wolfetone and have always been unsatisfied,
but oh man, Skatterbrane pickups just HAVE IT!!!  Thanks so much for responding to my inquiry,
I will definitely let my brother know to check in with you in a couple of weeks and to request
the aged pickups.  Thanks for the great pups again and keep up the good work!!

Sincerely satisfied customer,
-Jon

HOLY FREEKING CRAPPP!!

You wind some amazing PUPS I swear. Woman tone is now one of my
FAVOURITE tones!! I used to not like it very much but OH MY GOD. I used
to just roll off the neck tone which is fine. But rolling off the neck
or bridge tone in the middle position is WHERE ITS AT!! Oh my god its
silky smooth and literally just sings! And it seems like with these A4's
that it just works EXTRA well! I used to notice that some notes would
just die and not get into that sings territory with the woman tone. I
guess it just didn't get the right frequency but now I can play anywhere
on the guitar, any bend and it will SING! And this will happen whether I
play with the neck tone rolled off or the middle position with either
tones rolled off or even middle position with BOTH tones rolled off!!

Its all just EXTREMELY useable and its going to make me play with woman
tone for lead a LOT more. I was playing along to strange brew and it
absolutely NAILS that intro lead playing. That kind of thing is very
sought after IMO. Its not easy to get GOOD woman tone at ALL. I am still
yet to figure out how clapton got that almost buzzy fuzzy tone he gets
for those intro chords though and some lead playing, its something other
than woman tone.

The guitar is just incredible now. I haven't played it through the
bluesbreaker yet because of the volume so this has all been through the
classic 30. I know the bluesbreaker will be all the sweeter.

Thanks so much, the tone seriously almost made me weep!!

Martin

Rod, they are awesome, perfect. 4th set of pups (that have stayed in for more than a day) for
this guitar and these just work right off the bat. I haven't even messed around with them, no
fancy wiring, no tone cap swaps (started with a Hovland .022) very cool. I'm super pleased...
Thanks, and I'll have to get a set for my LP as well. I'm saving my pennies as of right now!

John

Rod,

"FINALLY!!"  You have nailed it!
My search is over...  Absolutely amazing sounding pickups!
I could not believe my ears...
After I have gone through Burstbruckers, WCR's, & Fralins,
I will no longer purchase anymore pickups only to sell for a loss.
The word needs to spread on these pickups.
Thanks a million for crafting the tone I have been seeking for 30 years.
The proof is in the tone and I wil be sure to let everyone know what is in my LP.
Great product Rod, and keep making these!!
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Rod,
I had some time this afternoon to dial in the pickups,
and recorded a sound clip while the family was out.
This is my R7 with the 'Branes into my Deluxe Reverb with
a Weber 12F150, recorded with an AKG condenser.
After a couple of days of use, I think I'm enjoying these
pickups as much for their unabashed honky mids as for the growl
and detail.  And honk and reveal they do, with some real
percussion on the note attack. The neck pickup has that `wood'
sound that puts me in mind of the Fralin neck P-90 in my
Les Paul Deluxe, and the bridge pickup is by no means shy
with the high end but not harsh.  The two pickup combo is sweet
and really usable.  They are indeed responsive and fun to play.
It seems that the high end `ducks' a little when I hit a note
hard, but the highs come back out as the note sustains, or if
I pick softly. Would that be the compression noted in PAF style
pickups? I must say, your pickups sounded `right' from the
minute I had them installed, and it is proving a real pleasure
to put them through their paces. Great job!!
Regards, Bigs B. Tracks

Once back in my Guitar start's the pleasure, the Neck Pickup is
definitely one of the best sounding i ever played, no muddyness in
the bass, open and fresh in the heights, with a nice wooden sound
with this Overtones.
From the Bridge Pickup i first missed a little bass kick, bud the
longer i played them the moore i love them. The way they start to
compress and the way you can controll the attack with the right Hand
is pur pleasure.
It's rare to find PU's that produce such musical crunch and
distorted Chord's, a big compliment to You Rod!!!
They are my Marshall's best Friend's now.
This Month i will play allong with my Friend Max, he's a Collector
and Humbucker Afficonado, and i can imagine that he need's an other
Set of Skatterbran's. TH

Hi Rod,

I received your pickups yesterday and loaded them in
late last night.  I didn't get to listen to them until
this evening(that was a tough wait!!!).  All I can say
is WOW!!!  These are exactly what I was looking for
but could not find with the others I have tried.  I
knew from the first chord that I hit that these
pickups were worthy!  I once owned a set of PAFs years
ago in a Les Paul that I traded away, and I have quite
vivid memories of them and how they sounded.  Your
pickups brought me back home to the sound AND feel I
remember so fondly.  I could go on and on about this
but then you already know because you created them!  I
just wanted to drop you a line to let you know just
how much I appreciate them and the help you gave me in
selecting the right match for my guitar.  If I can
help you in any way to spread the word about these
gems, just let me know!
Thanks Again,
Will

"Your pickups record great, very impressed" - GB
"The neck pickup sounds pretty damn killer to me" - GB

"
There's a definite Duane thing on the bridge pickup... really reminds me of "Live at Fillmore East".
Great pickups!"

"
I'm really surprised by the clarity and sweetness of these pickups!!  Great job!!"DD

"With this new set you sent, I can get that hollow, chirpy, doubletoned sound that's all over Mike's tone... I was just demoing the pickups by playing "Albert's Shuffle" and "Carmelita Skiffle" to a friend.  I just about nail Mike's tone dead on now.  Actually I can get close to that sound with just about any pickup but yours NAIL it."
"My "reference" set of double whites is going back in the drawer, probably for good."

Put the latest set of 'branes in today... WOW!  I LOVE 'em!  GB.

They are exactly what I was hoping for, nice and sweet yet slightly aggressive. The neck pickup seems just to swell and be nice and creamy, it feels like the notes are sustaining longer. The bridge has a nice bite with really nice growl to it.  I can tell right away these are going to replace the Dr. V's!!

I just got blown away by another thing. Complete and utter woman tone wth the neck tone on 0!! It's so rare you get a good usable tone out of the neck when the tone is on 0 but these pickups do it!  MT.
